Kick off the 1st day at 8 in the morning, and take small lanes through the countryside to avoid traffic jams as we gather at the city outskirts. There are various natural and agricultural sceneries waiting for you on the way from Hanoi to Mai Chau. After lunch, go along National Highway 6 to Thung Khe Pass, which offers a taste of true mountainous splendor. As one of the top 10 tourism destinations in the US by Business Insider Magazine, Mai Chau is an ideal destination for rustic natural environment lovers.
Standing on the top of Thung Khe Pass (White Stone Pass) at over 1000m above sea level, you can behold the unparalleled panoramic views of Mai Chau. Along with the top, the pass’s foot is also an Instagram sight, with the green field stretching immensely, creating a serene atmosphere to throw yourself in. Once getting to the windswept mountaintop, you can breathe the freshest air that expels the dusty smoke of the metropolis. Take some rest at a Thai People homestay, a stilt house in Mai Chau. End of a delightful day.

Phu Yen is the next destination after Mai Chau. It’s pretty easy to get there on an off-road trail. As a day outing, you will contemplate the scenic countryside and its emerald green peace. There are three options to make tracks for Moc Chau. First, get on to off-road tracks along the Lao-Vietnamese frontier, crossover Cun Pheo – Hang Kia – Pa Co. It’s such a dangerous loop trail, yet the sceneries are the most magnificent and intriguing, conquering almost the most fastidious riders. Second, take an easy way through the new National Highway 6. Last, pass the old National Highway 6 and feast your eyes with untouched landscapes; go through a forest of high trees, winding passes, and a natural waterfall: Tat Nang. However, there’re many sloping passes and dirt roads.
Stop for lunch at Hua Tat Pass and head to National Highway 43 towards Da River. Step abroad ferry to reach the other shore. Enjoy your lunch at Moc Chau Farm Town. Arrive in Phu Yen in the afternoon, have a full supper, and stay overnight to get back your energy for the next day.

Today will be a long day to take, so we shall be off to Than Uyen at daybreak. Chances are you will be instantly captivated by the beauty of mighty mountains and forests on all sides of the roads. By the way, we will cross Lung Lo Pass and have lunch in Tu Le. Explore the highlight of the whole tour: Mu Cang Chai, a fantasy place teeming with golden rice terraces. The locals here still uphold the long-time rituals, customs, and beliefs in tilling at the terraced paddy fields, which pertains to the history and culture of the H’mong people. If time permits, experience a parachute jump from the top of Khau Pha Pass and be all eyes to the panorama of La Pan Tan before rolling into Mu Cang Chai. Feed your Instagram with the background of Mam Xoi hill, followed by the tea hill with rice terraces interspersed with Than Uyen’s tea valleys. At 5 in the afternoon, we set our foot on Than Uyen. Take a walk around the town to relish the tranquillity of life and the majestic spectacle here.

Say goodbye to Than Uyen to move to Sapa. Before then, travel across O Quy Ho pass and visit the summit of Fansipan Mountain in Hoang Lien Son Mountain range. After lunchtime, be free to uncover Sapa on your own. Have a stroll to Ham Rong mountain, where you can see Muong Hoa, Sapa, and Ta Phin hides simultaneously. Or come to the flower garden at Ham Rong’s foot. Another place that is worth a visit is Sapa ancient church, one of the oldest surviving French architectural landmarks, which was built in 1930. The church will be an inherent image in the town after being ornamented and preserved.
Get a 2km ride from Sapa to Cat Cat village, an old village of the H’Mong People. The village has a long, drawn-in tourist looking for traditional handicrafts like linen, weaving, and cotton. Now, the place has been turned into a site for tourists.

The way to Luc Yen is not so tough. Proceed the journey at 9 in the morning, from Sa Pa to Lao Cai town. Keep riding along the frontier between Vietnam and China, then take no. 70 sealed road. After that, direct to Luc Yen on a small road. It’s a quiet and serene village of the Tay People with many strange and extraordinary stilt houses. Besides, there is a gemstone market, a popular trading destination for business people over the past 30 years. Lately, the site has started becoming more famous. Since then, it has attracted more and more tourists to come. Placed in the heart of Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province, the market is a unique and historic landmark dating back decades ago.
We will stay in a wonderful homestay there. Surely, the warm atmosphere will relax you after a long day of riding. When you wake up the next day, open the window and feel a special nature here. In front of your eyes are rolling mountain ranges covered with the dark green of tree leaves. Move your eyes horizontally, and you will see a few houses on stilts looming in the endless rice paddy fields.

It’s near the end of the Northern Vietnam motorbike trip. On the 6th day, it will be more comfortable for riders because we will spend most of the time riding through smooth roads with a continuous even surface. The distance for driving is even short. It is a day for the whole crew to relax our muscles. More than that, you will have more time to go sightseeing. The immense rice paddy fields and forested mountains are waiting for you. If possible, come by The Yao or Tay people’s rustic village.
Halt in Vu Linh for lunch. Subsequently, learn about the miraculous process of making masterpieces by hand. It is without dispute charming and mind-boggling to visitors who first come here. In the afternoon, opt for a cruise on Thac Ba Lake, one of Vietnam’s three largest artificial lakes, when building the Thac Ba hydroelectric plant. The lake is called “Ha Long on the mountain,” with the large green islands under the shadow of the cave system, beautifully hidden deep in the heart of the range. Spend a night at a homestay of Yao people and get ready for the last day.
