Today’s destination is Bac Son valley, located northwest of Lang Son province, about 160 km the Northeast of Hanoi. Bac Son valley is embraced by rivers stretching along golden rice fields, which has inspired a lot of photographers to have masterpiece pictures. Visually, tourists are also impressed by incredible mountains about 500-1200 meters high. These mountains, together with the valley’s paddy fields, create a great scenic panorama that you can only see its best after climbing to the peak.
We ride on a crowded highway straightly to the border of China to reach Bac Son valley. On the road, we can have a small stop for a break and quickly snap some amazing photos. After that, we turn left to a small muddy road that leads to Bac Son valley. After hours of riding, we stop and rest at Tay’s homestay, where you have time to immerse yourself in the local culture and life of ethnic minorities.

The most wonderful spot on the second day is Ban Gioc Waterfall in Cao Bang province, lying between the borders of Vietnam and China. Coming here at different times, you will be surprised by its various outlooks with amazing sceneries. It owns a gentle, elegant beauty in the dry season (from October to May). Yet, it carries a majestic and intense view in the rain season. Ban Gioc waterfall is also well-known for thousands of limestone monoliths looming above paddy fields, which are tended by Nung, Tay, and Hmong people. You also can visit surrounding areas such as Nguom Ngao cave, Pac Bo, Lenin stream, Thang Hen lake, etc., to have greater experiences.
The road to Ban Gioc waterfall is challenging even for the most skillful riders. We will take a long trip riding up the hill, then move on to the legendary Highway 4. It is where the Viet Minh forces carried out numerous raids over uncountable passes in this remote border region. After that, we come to Quang Uyen, then cross many passes and tunnel roads to reach the Ban Gioc Waterfall, where we will have lunch. Next, we return to Quang Uyen by another road and have a night in Quang Uyen.

Distance: 220 km

From Cao Bang, we ride in the southwest direction for about 153 kilometers. Descending passes, you can feast your eyes with glorious views of the surrounding rural areas and hillsides carpeted with apiaries that are well-known for Vietnam’s most famous honey-producing areas. You can choose between a small and a big road; it is quite easy for you to drive on both. However, to save time for a boat trip included in the tour, the big road is highly recommended for you. Because if choosing to ride on the small road, you can miss the amazing boat trip to Ba Be lake.
Ba Be Lake is placed in Bac Kan province, considered one of the biggest freshwater lakes in Vietnam and the world, and recognized as a national tourism destination of Vietnam. In the early morning, Ba Be Lake is full of tranquility with the fanciful fog, birds chirping, and the murmur of wind. When the sun comes, the green lake with the shadow of mountains and clouds will appear marvelously. We arrive at Ba Be lake in the afternoon and spend overnight at a stilt house of a Tay minority family on the shores of the lake.
